The Moldo-Ashuu Pass

The Moldo-Ashuu Pass is a high mountain pass located at 3,346 m above sea level in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan. It is one of the most famous roads in the world.

How long is the Moldo Ashuu Pass?
The road is 45.6 km long and runs from Kara-Oi to Lake Son-Kul. The route is difficult, with unpaved terrain and hairpin bends along the Kurtka River canyon. Only 4×4 vehicles are recommended.

Is the Moldo Ashuu Pass open?
The pass, located in the Tian Shan mountain range, is almost impassable from November to March. Dense fog often reduces visibility to almost zero. Even in summer, travelers may encounter snow in July. Warm clothing is a must.

Is the Moldo-Ashuu Pass worth the effort?
Moldo-Ashuu is one of the most incredible passes in Kyrgyzstan. The route features nine hairpin bends that require skill and confidence. The summit offers stunning views of the winding road and numerous photo opportunities. The scenery includes views of the Naryn Valley, mountain ranges, valleys, ice-covered peaks and pine-covered slopes.
