Adventure and Mystery in the Mountains of Kyrgyzstan

 

Engilchek, also known as Enilchek or Inylchek, is a small village located in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Nestled in the valley of the Saryjaz River, near the Chinese border, this settlement was once a thriving mining center during the Soviet era. With the closure of the mines, the population dramatically declined, and today, Engilchek is considered a ghost town, with fewer than twenty families remaining.

Engilchek stands as a silent witness to its industrial past and the nomadic traditions of Kyrgyzstan.
